Spain
Like Italy, Spain’s wine culture is completely integrated in everyday life throughout the country. The changes over the past few years are impossible to list coherently, as the sheer number of producers is mind-numbing. There remains no doubt that the price/quality ratio of Spanish wine is very good and even great throughout the entire Spanish range. Great buys and unique flavour profiles abound - all yours to discover. If you require further supplier or product information, please contact your local RWM office.
The northeastern Spanish region of the Priorat is, at first glance, an inhospitable place. Its massive rocky outcroppings and soils seem unsuited for growing anything, let alone, quality grapes to make wine. However, as in many other places (think Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Mosel valley with its slate soils and even Austria with its old granite rocky soils), the grapevine struggles admirably for our benefit. Here at the winery managed by Xavier Buil we have a wonderful source of richly flavoured, unique, mostly red wines (and white too), fashioned in a modern style in their newly constructed winery.
