Greece has perhaps the oldest wine culture on earth. It may suffer from the cheap “jug wine” image, but there are some delicious, inexpensive wines (whites and reds) and very inexpensive - see the Kouros range from Kourtakis. This family winery outside Athens, Greece has been awarded the winery of the year award by Wine & Spirit magazine six times in the last ten years. Their Kouros line is a modern expression of one of the oldest wine cultures in the world. As well, their Retsina is quite modern and only lightly resinated, making it ideal with a wide range of Greek foods.
